The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) ALUMNI- The Gambia Chapter on Thursday, 04th April paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss collaborative efforts to advance climate action in the country. Deliberations included exploring areas for joint coordination and partnership to bolster initiatives addressing climate change challenges.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bubacarr Zaidi Jallow welcomed the WASCAL Alumni, he assured the Alumni of the Ministry's unwavering support in their endeavors within areas of mutual interest and collaboration to foster impactful initiatives aimed at addressing climate challenges.

According to the president of WASCAL ALUMNI- The Gambia Chapter, Dr. Demba Baldeh, the Alumni comprises 24 trained climate change scientists with MSC and PhD levels. He added that their collective knowledge spans various disciplines, from meteorology to environmental science, enabling a holistic approach to understanding and addressing climate issues.

He further stated that the alumni is ready to use its expertise and dedication in combating the pressing challenges of climate change.

The meeting underscored the mutual commitment to utilize expertise and resources towards sustainable solutions, not only in climate action but also in other pertinent sectors.

WASCAL is a large-scale research-focused Climate Service Centre designed to help tackle climate change challenges and thereby enhance the resilience of human and environmental systems to climate change and increased variability.
