The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources recently held a national coordination meeting with senior officials, lead negotiators, and delegates at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This strategic gathering was essential for aligning the country’s approach, consolidating national positions, and reinforcing collective efforts to address key challenges and opportunities presented at the conference. In her address, Hon. Minister Rohey John-Manjang, head of the party delegation, highlighted that it is a blessing for the country to be representated by diverse group of expertise. She emphasized the importance of maintaining alignment with the positions of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group and the African Group of Negotiators. The Minister also encouraged delegates to take advantage of learning opportunities at the conference, stressing that these experiences would enhance their individual capacities in critical thematic areas.

Hon. John-Manjang expressed her gratitude for the delegates’ dedication and applauded the lead negotiators for effectively advocating for the country’s interests on the global stage. Permanent Secretary Ebrima Jawara urged delegates to submit their reports promptly. He noted that timely submissions would aid the Ministry in preparing a comprehensive Cabinet Paper, facilitate the registration process for the next COP, and support other related activities. Lead negotiators in key thematic areas provided updates on their ongoing negotiation activities, showcasing the collaborative effort that strengthens the country’s voice and ability to advocate for its climate priorities and commitments.
