The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), recently held a Pre-COP briefing workshop in preparation for this year’s United Nations Climate Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The workshop aimed to equip delegates with an overview of COP processes, including key thematic negotiation areas, The Gambia’s negotiation positions, and priorities of its affiliated negotiation groups.
Speaking on behalf of His Excellency Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow, Hon. Minister Rohey John Manjang emphasized the importance of aligning on priority areas, understanding the purpose of attending this conference, and exploring potential bilateral opportunities.
UNDP representative Ms. Evelyn Edroma noted that the pre-COP meeting is essential in preparing the national delegation, ensuring they are well-informed about COP processes and equipped to effectively advocate for The Gambia’s priorities.
The annual COP conference advances global climate discussions, mobilizes action, and provides a platform to assess climate impacts while exploring innovative solutions to address emerging challenges.
