Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment urged Farming Communities to adopt the Agro-Forestry Farming System

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources Mr Momodou Mbye urged Farming Communities to adopt the Agro-Forestry Farming System which can provide a wide range of environmental services including improved soil for farming. It also protects crops and livestock from winds, restores degraded lands improved water conservation and prevent soil erosion.

He urged farming communities to prevent forest fires because they can damage crops and the soil. It is also harmful to livestock. Farmers and forest communities in LRR face challenges on forest fires. The ministry will work with community-based organisations and farmers organisations on massive sensitization on how to prevent forest fires.

The PS mentioned this while addressing the farmers and community forest members at the Official Launching Ceremony of the National Tree Planting Exercise which was initiated by PS.
