The President of the Republic of the Gambia His Excellency President Adama Barrow will officially launch and commission the Brikama and Jarra Soma Sub Station on 23 October 2021 at the Jarra Soma Sub Station.
The event will be grace by the President of the OMVG Member States the President of the Republic of Senegal His Excellency President Macky Sall and the President of Guinea Bissau His Excellency Mr Umara Muctarr Sissoho Embalo.
The Gambia River Basin Development Organisation (OMVG) Project is a sub-regional basin organisation project initiated by Gambian veterans at the department of water resources during the First Republic. The Project was initiated on 30 June 1978, The OMVG Member Countries comprised The Gambia, Guinea Conakry Guinea Bissau and Senegal.
The OMVG Project is being implemented by The Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR). The regional head office is based in Dakar Senegal.
The OMVG High Commission is the executing agency of the integrated development programmes of the four-member states which are technically coordinated by the High Commissioner and President Adama Barrow the current Chairman of OMVG Member States.
The OMVG project consists of the construction of the Sambangalou Hydroelectric dam with an installed capacity of 128 MW and a 225-KV power transmission line stretching across 1,677 km with 15 high voltage/medium voltage substations and two dispatching centres.
The total cost of the International Line and the Sambangalou Hydroelectric dam is estimated at USD 1,147,462,262.
