The Greenpeace West Africa Dakar Office in collaboration with environmental organizations, advocacy and activist groups in The Gambia including Gambia Environmental Alliance (GEA) recently organized a two days capacity building workshop on non-violence advocacy held from 6 to 7 November at Gunjur, Dalaba Ecolodge.
These two days workshops will further train participants in various techniques that could be utilized while working to protect and preserve Gambia's environment and natural resources.
Various environmental organisations that are activists were selected to participate in the capacity building programme. We realized that enhancing the understanding of these organizations about institutional and legislative frameworks governing environmental protection is key. Thus equipping them with advocacy tips and non-violence best practices will greatly help them in their future works.
Someone may wonder why non-violence? Well, Non-violent actions seem to be the way that works in winning the hearts and minds of some organizations, policymakers, and citizens about environmental and ecological related challenges affecting the lives, health, future, and livelihoods of locals.
