THE GAMBIA RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONALLY AS CLIMATE LEADER

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources Mr Momodou Mbye Jabang have said that, The Gambia is recognized internationally as a climate leader, therefore it is expected to present an ambitious National Determined Contribution (NDCs) as the first one which will be supported by an action plan and a strategy.It is therefore necessary and fundamental to give this a benefitting consideration and dedication to come up with desired outcomes for the NDCs.

The Permanent Secretary mentioned this at a recently concluded workshop to review and update the priority interventions of the Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Gambia, NDCs.The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment incollarboration with the 3As Consulting with technical support from ICLEI Africa.It was held at Metzy Residence Hotel from 23 to 24 February 2021 attended by various government stakeholders.

Also speaking at the Event was the Director of Climate Change at MECCNAR Mr Alpha Jallow said that, the newly created secretariat will come up with strategies and policies to mitigate climate change, the secretariat will also embark on strategies to increase the awareness of efficient used of renewable energy.

The CEO of GCCI mentioned about private sector involvement relating to PPP investment in renewable energy, he said the GCCI newly build trade fair center is 100% renewable energy.He said, the private sector recognized its responsibility by investing more in renewable energy.
