The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR), led by the Hon. Minister Rohey John Manjang, on Sunday 28th June, 2026 spearheaded a national cleansing exercise along major highways in the Greater Banjul Area, reinforcing the call for collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The exercise brought together partners, volunteers, and stakeholders who worked side by side to clear waste and improve sanitation along key public spaces.
During the activity, the Minister visited various teams stationed along the highways to express appreciation and encourage participants for their commitment and dedication to keeping The Gambia clean. She described the exercise as a reminder that environmental cleanliness begins with individual action and grows stronger when communities work together.
“A healthy nation is a wealthy nation,” the Minister noted, emphasizing that small but consistent actions by citizens can make a significant difference in protecting public health and the environment.
She further stressed that a cleaner environment does not happen by chance but through shared responsibility, urging citizens to adopt cleanliness as a daily habit for the benefit of present and future generations.
The Minister also extended gratitude to all partners for their collaboration and support, noting that their contribution was instrumental in the success of the exercise.
