Hon. Minister John-Manjang Calls for Stronger Regional Cooperation at OMVG Meeting

Hon. Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Mrs. Rohey John Manjang, has called for stronger regional cooperation and commitment among member states of the Gambia River Basin Development Organization (OMVG) during the opening of the 15th Extraordinary Session of the OMVG Council of Ministers in Banjul.

Welcoming delegates on behalf of President Adama Barrow, the Minister expressed appreciation to member states for their continued commitment to the OMVG's objectives and ideals.

She described the OMVG as a strong example of African solidarity and cooperation, highlighting its achievements in improving energy access, advancing economic integration, and promoting the sustainable management of shared river basin resources.

Minister John-Manjang noted that although the meeting was originally planned for Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia accepted to host the session in the spirit of brotherhood and sub-regional unity.

She also commended experts and technical teams for laying a solid foundation for productive ministerial deliberations through their assessments and recommendations.

The Minister further welcomed the new Chairman of the OMVG Council of Ministers and Guinea-Bissau’s new representative to the Council, expressing optimism that their leadership would strengthen collaboration within the organisation.
