Gender Equality, Social Inclusion TWG Under LIFE-AR Programme Inaugurated

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR) has officially inaugurated the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Technical Working Group (TWG) under the Least Developed Countries’ Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR) Intiative.

The inaugural meeting brought together members of the GESI TWG to familiarize them with the LIFE-AR framework and its methodology for integrating gender and social inclusion principles. Participants were also oriented on the Group’s Terms of Reference (ToR) and engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening coordination and collaboration among GESI members and other LIFE-AR technical groups.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Principal Assistant Secretary Mr. Momodou Kanyi underscored the importance of inclusivity in climate action. He noted that climate change disproportionately affects women, youth, and marginalized groups, emphasizing that the establishment of the GESI TWG reflects MECCNAR’s commitment to addressing systemic inequalities through inclusive approaches within the LIFE-AR framework.

The GESI TWG is mandated to provide technical advice, support, and oversight to ensure that gender equality and social inclusion are effectively integrated across all LIFE-AR activities in The Gambia, including programme design, strategies, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and communication.

The LIFE-AR Programme aims to build long-term climate resilience and promote sustainable development pathways for the most vulnerable communities in The Gambia. Through the GESI TWG, the programme seeks to ensure that no one is left behind in the country’s pursuit of climate adaptation and resilience.
