As part of the Global Week of Climate Action, a team of climate activists and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) led by the Executive Director of ActionAid International The Gambia, Mrs. Ndella Faye-Colley, Recently submitted a petition to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources.
The petition follows a caravan tour across rural Gambia, where communities and local authorities voiced their concerns and demands for urgent climate justice.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Honourable Minister, Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Bubacar Zaidi Jallow commended the team for their commitment and tireless efforts in advancing the fight against climate change. He assured them that the demands outlined in the petition will be taken seriously and integrated into The Gambia’s national position.
“These demands will be incorporated into the national demands to be presented at COP30 in Belem, Brazil,” DPS Jallow stated.
For her part, Mrs. Faye-Colley expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its continued collaboration with CSOs and its openness to dialogue. She explained that the caravan gave rural communities—who are often excluded from decision-making processes—the opportunity to raise their voices and contribute to the national climate justice agenda.
The initiative formed part of ongoing global actions calling on world leaders to take stronger measures in addressing the climate crisis
